SEER2 AC Installation in Miami — Compliant Systems, Proper Installs

SEER2 is the updated efficiency rating standard adopted by the DOE effective January 2023. It uses a higher static pressure test condition (M1) that more accurately reflects real installed performance. A 15 SEER2 system is roughly equivalent to a 15.8 SEER system under the old standard.

Split system air conditioners in South Florida (Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, and other counties in Climate Zone 1) must meet a minimum of 15.2 SEER2 effective January 1, 2023. Heat pumps have separate minimums.

Pre-January 2023 inventory that met the old SEER standard could be installed for a grace period after the transition. That window is now closed for most equipment types.
